Description

In 1841, Sidor Kuznetsov founded the first porcelain and faience factory in the Baltic region, constructing it in Kengarags. Initially, the factory produced only semi-faience products, but in 1851, porcelain production began.

After the death of his father in 1864, Matvey Kuznetsov took over the management of the production. In 1872, the factory changed its name to "S.T. Kuznetsov Porcelain and Faience Society" (M.S. Kuznetsov Porcelain and Faience Ware Society). Ten years later, in 1882, the name was changed to "M.S. Kuznetsov Porcelain and Faience Factory." It was part of the "M.S. Kuznetsov Porcelain and Faience Combine," along with other factories in Russia.

In 1915, with the outbreak of World War I and the approaching front, the factory was evacuated to Russia. However, after the war ended in 1920, Kuznetsov's factory resumed production. In 1922, it was registered as the "Porcelain and Faience Factory of the Joint-Stock Company 'M.S. Kuznetsov'."

The next significant turn in the factory's history occurred in 1940 when the joint-stock company was nationalized and renamed "Krasnaya Zvezda" (Red Star). From September of the same year, the factory carried the name "Riga Ceramics Factory."

In 1946, the factory received a new name, the "Riga Porcelain and Faience Factory" (RPFF). In 1963, it merged with the "Riga Porcelain Factory," and the combined enterprise was named the "Riga Porcelain and Faience Factory" (RPFR).

In 1968, faience production was discontinued, and the factory changed its name once again to the "Riga Porcelain Factory" (RPR). In 1991, the company was renamed to JSC "Riga Porcelain."

However, in 1997, A/S "Rīgas porcelāns" went bankrupt, leading to a change in the factory's ownership. In 2013-2014, the historical factory buildings were demolished, leaving only the chimneys.
