Description
An international illustrated postal card sent from Riga to Germany just before Christmas on December 23, 1930. The front features a colorized historical view of the Koknese Castle ruins (Schlossruine Kokenhusen)—a nostalgic sight capturing the Daugava river valley before it was permanently flooded by the Pļaviņas Hydroelectric Power Station in the 1960s. Addressed to Zossen near Berlin, the destination includes a fascinating socio-historical detail: "Heimkehrlager L.5." (Returnee/Repatriation camp). The card is franked with two 10 santīmi Coat of Arms stamps. The reverse contains handwritten Christmas and New Year wishes in German directed to a cousin.
