Description

The Cassetti brand was born in 1926 out of the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of one Renzo Cassetti, an heir of that cherished tradition of Florentine master engravers, jewellers and silversmiths that harks back to Benvenuto Cellini. Renzo is one of those classic artists who appends his signature exclusively to unique pieces, some of which have already become historic such as those that form part of the Vatican’s furnishings. Famous celebrities frequently turn up at his workshop near the Ponte Vecchio looking to buy a “one-off piece”, modelled by his flair and that of the steadily increasing number of fellow master silversmiths. In the nineteen-fifties, Maria Grazia, Renzo’s daughter, joined the company to add her particular brand of creativity to the Cassetti tradition, and most of all “a touch of female intuition”. The first objects in silver with crystal and silver with porcelain were thanks to her, constituting a genuine innovation for the market. But the tiny, undersized workshop soon became inadequate and Renzo was obliged to move to the San Gaggio area just outside the walls of the historic city, to the slopes of the “Viale dei Colli”. The passion for the noble metal demanded premises that could meet the needs of the already steadily expanding company. It was under Andrea and Maria Grazia’s guidance that the industrial consecration came about. The most up-to-date technology, business strategies and sophisticated working methods were introduced, without ever neglecting the refined taste and deftness of Florentine craftsmen, however. Thus were born the most interesting pieces designed by Andrea; with designs that were contemporary and sufficiently original to end up on display in museums (for instance, the four-piece coffee service with tray now at the Staatliches Museum fur Angewandteknust in Munich, Germany). Thanks go to Andrea for all the highly original and personal designs as well as the revisitations of the past. Maria Grazia Cassetti has long cultivated a great passion for an cient and modern jewellery, and as a result, in the nineteen-sixties, she started to sell these precious works of art. Her enthusiasm for the beautiful and exclusive is innate, and Maria Grazia, with the assistance of specialist associates travels to every part of the world to “unearth” that once-in-a-lifetime historic item to offer in her exclusive shops. Hence the first “Cassetti” shop: the prestigious salon on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, later joined by the shop at Forte dei Marmi and the “Rolex” boutique on the Ponte Vecchio.
