Description
François Frédéric Lanternier established a luxury porcelain workshop in 1857. Partnering with Breuil he took over the Chabrol factory and started producing porcelain, which was artistically hand decorated in his studio.
In 1890 the company was joined by Frederic's son, Alfred Lanternier. Alfred gained experience working in England as a Wedgewood representative. The company changed name to A. Lanternier & Co. They bought another porcelain factory in Limoges.
During WWI the factory also produced porcelain dolls. After the war A. Lanternier & Co. continued production of luxury porcelain. In 1925 they received the Grand Prix at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts (Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes). They also produced porcelain for two design studios: Pomone (Le Bon Marché department store) and La Mestrado, the design studio of the famous Galeries Lafayette in Paris.
In the late 1960s they merged with Gerard Dufraisseix & Abbot GDA Limoges.
