Description

Inta Dobrāja's paintings are close to the classical tradition - they show finely honed craftsmanship, simplicity and harmony of themes and content. Dobrāja's works are realistic, based on the tonal and spatial painting characteristic of Latvian classical art. She painted mainly flowers, still lifes, nudes and figurative compositions. They are dominated by women depicted in home interiors, in the kitchen, at work in the fields or with their children, whose outward appearance is characterised by strong, rounded forms.

Inta Dobrāja was born on 14 January 1940 in Riga. Inta Dobrāja has been a member of the Artists' Union of Latvia since 1972. She studied at the ceramics department of the Riga School of Applied Arts (1954-1959) and graduated from the Latvian State Academy of Art, Painting Department in 1967 with her diploma thesis "Keramiķi" (supervisor Eduards Kalniņš).
