Description
A 1937 registered cover boasting an incredibly rare and exotic destination: from Liepāja, Latvia to Leopoldville, Belgian Congo (Central Africa). The sender was a known Liepāja philatelist, M. Krasts, evidenced by the rare pink etiquette reading "Lūdzu viegli zīmogot!" (Please cancel lightly!). The franking exactly meets the 75 santīmi rate (35s international letter + 40s registration fee), featuring the 40s Cēsis Castle definitive and the 35s K. Ulmanis "Fatherland Prize" semi-postal issue. The letter traveled to Central Africa in 25 days: dispatched on November 14, it bears a crisp Leopoldville arrival datestamp on the reverse dated December 9, 1937.
