Description

A First World War era postal cover sent on August 25, 1916, from frontline Riga to the Estland Governorate (village of Johannis, present-day Jõhvi, Estonia). The document is a private correspondence between members of the noble Haller family. On the front, the sender detailed the specific routing: “via Ass station of the Baltic Railway,”. The cover is franked with 10 kopecks (7 and 3-kopeck Imperial Russian stamps), cancelled by crisp Riga postmarks. The reverse features a handwritten return address.
