Description
An international 5 kg parcel dispatch note with Cash on Delivery (Nachnahme), mailed in October 1912 from Württemberg (German Empire) to Riga (Russian Empire). This document is a spectacular example of cross-border postal accounting between two empires. The front features a striking orange "Nachnahme" label. The card bears a high-value German franking totaling 3.55 Marks, while the reverse features an additionally applied Russian 10-kopeck stamp to cover local arrival/handling fees. The historical narrative is completed by a large purple Russian handstamp confirming the collection of the COD amount (53 Rubles 90 Kopecks) and the fascinating chronological shift in datestamps: dispatched October 4 (Gregorian calendar), arrived September 26 (Julian calendar).
