Description

Gianni Raffaelli was born in 1952 in the popular district of San Frediano, Florence. As a youth, he followed his father, a renowned artist, to Venezuela, where he spent a significant part of his youth. Due to the lack of qualified art schools in Caracas, Raffaelli continued his education at an Italian language high school, graduating in 1970. A year later, intending to further his studies, he returned to Florence, where he rediscovered his interests and motivations in his hometown, prompting him to resume his study of painting and graphics.

Upon entering the Academy of Fine Arts, Raffaelli also joined the Teatro Chompi, where he met Volpi and Agostini, other graphic designers. Together, in 1976, they founded Ippogrifo, a studio-laboratory destined to become a genuine center for technical research of ancient engraving arts. Thanks to twenty years of daily experience and meticulous exploration of each technical aspect, Raffaelli achieved recognition in this field, which also extended beyond the country's borders.

Since 1990, various students have approached his techniques, finding in the author technical support that is hard to come by in traditional art schools. As a confirmation of his professionalism and recognition, he collaborated with Art Press, an engraving school sponsored by the Tuscany region and the province of Florence, and funded by the European Social Fund.
