Description

A Cold War "Khrushchev Thaw" era international cover sent on April 1, 1958, from Riga (Latvian SSR) to Borås, Sweden. The envelope is franked at the pre-1961 reform airmail rate of 60 kopecks, featuring a large 40-kopeck "Estonian SSR Pavilion at VDNKh" stamp and a vertical strip of four 5-kopeck definitives. The primary postal history appeal lies in its markings: the stamps are tied by specialized Riga international datestamps inscribed in French, "RSS DE LETTONIE" (Latvian SSR). Additionally, the front bears a crisp rectangular "МЕЖДУНАРОДНОЕ" (INTERNATIONAL) routing cachet.
