Description

A penalty fee for international mail is established by the postal service of the sending country. For Russian mail sent abroad, the fine was set in Russia according to local regulations but indicated in international currency — gold francs and gold centimes. The number "25" written in pencil (partially hidden under the postage due stamps) signifies a fine of 25 gold centimes. In 1922, the exchange rate of the gold franc was equal to 1 Danish krone. Thus, the Russian mark of 25 centimes was equivalent to 25 Danish øre. Danish postage due stamps (Portomærker) were applied upon arrival in Denmark and paid by the recipient. July 18, 1922. A postcard from Moscow to Denmark with a 1st Expedition postmark. The oval stamp is a Moscow railway station postmark. The tariff for a postcard in the 12th period was 27 rubles. The card was franked for only 17 rubles. Upon arrival in Denmark, a fine of 25 øre was imposed. As mentioned earlier, during the 12th period, stamps with denominations of 1–14 kopecks were valued as rubles, while ruble stamps were used at their face value. Tariff: 12th period, international postcard (June 17, 1922 – October 17, 1922) = 27 rubles.
