Description

This cover illustrates an error in calculating the international mail rate. Route: Sent from Moscow to Zurich (addressed to Crédit Suisse). Date: 16.08.17 (based on the postmarks). The Error: The sender franked the letter with 15 kopeks (the domestic rate), whereas the international rate was 20 kopeks. The error was caught, and a "T" (Taxe) stamp was applied, indicating a deficiency of 5 kopeks. Context: This occurred immediately after the introduction of new tariffs on August 15. Censorship: A round purple stamp from Moscow Military Censorship No. 111 is visible.
