Description

Folded commercial letter sent from Riga (Russian Empire) on February 19, 1827, to the prestigious London bank Fredk. Huth & Co. The document demonstrates a complex route through Prussia and Holland, confirmed by a rich set of postal markings. The letter is notable for a clear two-line Prussian transit stamp "P. MEMEL" (Memel) and a black "FRANCO" strike, indicating payment of postage to the border. There is a rare red rectangular British postmark "Dutch / F.P.O." (Foreign Post Office) on the reverse, as well as a circular London arrival stamp dated March 9, 1827. Inside the letter, a detailed market report from the trading house C. Jacobs & Co with current prices for flax, hemp, and seeds has been preserved.
