Description
Adolfs Melnars has painted mainly genre scenes – everyday life of peasants and fishermen, also landscapes and still lifes. He has turned also to historic genre. In his painting style, Melnars is close to Mukusala painters group, with exception of more expressive treatment of forms and more saturated colouring.
He has learned in the studio of K.Miesnieks (1928), Art Academy of Latvia (1930-1939), graphic art masterclass of R.Zarins (1932) and in Landscape Painting masterclass of V.Purvitis (1934–1936). He graduated masterclass of Figurative painting by G.Eliass with a diploma work “Rye harvest”.
Melnars participated in exhibitions since 1933. He was a member of Artist’s union since 1945. From 1945 until 1957 he worked as a painting and drawing teacher in the Riga College of Applied Art.
