Evert Jan Ligtelijn (Dutch) was born in 1893 in Amsterdam and lived and worked in Amsterdam, Naarden and Amstelveen. He made many trips abroad, among others to the Canary Islands and South and Central America.
He painted many subjects, often Mediterranean scenes and cityscapes of Amsterdam.
He was a prolific painter of various subjects. His paintings in smooth brushstrokes of Amsterdam cityscapes in summer or winter atmosphere, as well as his river views of the Vecht are highly sought after.
He traveled to the Canarian Islands, North, Central and South America. Evert Jan Ligtelijn signed alias Pé Lucia, his pseudonym during his extensive travels abroad. Much of his Mediterranean work was largely made with the painting knife which can be seen clearly in this painting. He was an autodidact who has worked a long time in his hometown Amsterdam.
Besides Amsterdam, he also painted a lot in Naarden, Gorssel, The Vecht and Kortenhoef. He worked In Bergen for some time with Harry Kuyten with whom he became friends. He was a lifelong friend of painter Nico Bruijn Stein. He died in Laren in 1975.
