Austra Abolina was born in 1910 in the parish of Aiviekste, in the family of a tree sorter. Artistic education Austra got in 1938 by graduating from the workshop of figurative painting of G. Elias in the Latvian Academy of Arts with the diploma work "Women with a child". While studying, she worked as a costume designer at the National Opera (1930-1933) and a drawing teacher at Riga Secondary School No. 2 (1935-1938). In 1940 she began to take part in exhibitions. From 1941 to 1944 was a member of the Society of Fine Arts. Member of the Union of Artists since 1945.
Austria Abolina wrote mostly portraits and still lifes. In portraits of cultural figures and revolutionary participants, she sought to reveal the inner world of people, while still-lifes painted in a more decorative and expressive manner.
