Description

The production of the unusually thin and durable earthenware at Longchamp Terres de Fer began in 1860 and was obtained by adding feldspar and kaolin. Very clean, similar to porcelain, it was called opaque porcelain and served as the basis for painting art ceramics, which were then covered with transparent glaze.

In 1868, the factory was led by the Charbonier brothers. It was they who brought to their enterprise the English technology for the production of porcelain Opaque (terre de fer), the so-called opaque porcelain or iron earth.

The harmony of color and form, the original composition, grace and nobility in each line of the drawing - all these qualities are fully reflected in the presented subject of decorative art of the late XIX - early XX centuries.
